Tributes paid to BBC weather icon during final forecast of legendary career

  • Carol Kirkwood is leaving the BBC after almost 30 years, with her final weather update on BBC Breakfast scheduled for Wednesday morning, 1 April.
  • The 63-year-old TV star, who announced her departure in January, described it as "the right moment to step away" despite the decision not being an easy one.
  • Kirkwood expressed her gratitude for her job and the support and friendship from her colleagues across BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather, and other BBC programmes.
  • She joined the BBC Weather Centre in April 1998 and has served as BBC Breakfast's main weather presenter since 2010.
  • During Wednesday morning’s show tributes were made to Kirkwood from presenters Sally Nugent, Jon Kay, Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid and musician Bryan Adams.
