BBC weather forecasts 'warmer Mediterranean' weather next week

Summer may be technically over, but we're set to get one last blast of heat next week with "Mediterranean" weather on the way.

Forecasters at BBC weather are predicting that next week will see warm and sunny weather return for a short time, with temperatures of 25 degrees forecast in Liverpool.

The start of September has seen cloudy and grey skies, with many thinking about getting out their winter coat.

However the forecast is set to improve from Sunday onwards, before the rain returns the following weekend.

The BBC weather forecast for the entire UK from September 6 to September 12 said: "The UK will remain caught between two pressure systems for much of next week, with lower pressure to our west and higher pressure to our east. Neither of these systems will have full control over the weather leading to an east-west spilt in the cloudiness and rain.

"In addition, the orientation of these pressure systems should promote a warm southerly wind through France and into the UK, bringing us some warmer Mediterranean air for a while.

"Temperatures should be above average for most of the country throughout the week, especially for the southern half of the UK.

"By next weekend low pressure will spread more widely across northern Europe and bring a wetter, unsettled, and cooler pattern for the UK into mid-September.

"The weather pattern for the North Atlantic and Europe is at the mercy of Atlantic hurricane activity for the next few weeks, and this is leading to lower confidence in the forecast than usual."

Before the warmer weather arrives Liverpool is set to see cloudy but dry conditions.

The forecast for the North West said: "This afternoon, it should remain largely cloud for many, with a small chance of the odd patch of drizzle. A few spells of sunshine will develop between any breaks in cloud.

"This evening and tonight, thicker cloud will build back in, and it will become overcast throughout the night. Staying mostly dry, but the small chance of a spell of drizzle remains under thick cloud.

"Tomorrow will be similar, with an overcast start to the day but staying largely dry. In the afternoon, cloud will fragment for some, allowing for some sunny spells to develop.

"Saturday looks set to continue mostly cloudy, with just a few sunny spells in places, but it should remain largely dry. On Sunday, it is expected to be a dry day with sunny spells and patchy cloud. It will feel warmer. Monday may continue settled with dry, warm and largely sunny weather."
