BBC weather forecasts heavy snow for Leeds this week as temperatures plummet

After days of warm sunny spells, the weather in Leeds is set to change this week with heavy snow on the cards.

Across Yorkshire, we have seen temperatures rise to 18C but in the next few days forecasters say there will be snow in several cities across the region including Leeds.

BBC forecasters state that temperatures will plunge back into single digits and snow is set to hit the region on Wednesday, March 30, with temperatures of 5C high and 0C low on the day.

Throughout the day there will be rain before it turns to sleep around 4pm then heavy snow showers from 8pm into the late evening.

However, there is a slight contrast from forecasters from the Met Office who predict snow for North Yorkshire only.

According to the BBC, the temperature will start out at 4C on Wednesday with light rain, but this will turn to sleet at 5pm but temperatures will drop to 3C and heavy snow is predicted from 8pm.

From there, it is expected to keep snowing until the early hours of Thursday with light snow showers predicted to stop around 6am.

Met Office chief meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said: "Although the UK has had a good deal of fine and settled March weather in recent days, a change is on the way from the middle of next week with colder air spreading down from the north and the increasing likelihood of rain for most areas. On the hills in the north, there’s a chance of this falling as snow, although we’ll gain more certainty on that in the coming days.

"With the influence of some unsettled weather, we’ll be seeing a marked drop in temperatures for most with colder air arriving from the north. This will see maximum temperatures drop into single figures for many areas, and below freezing overnight."
