BBC weather forecast for Christmas Day predicts bitterly cold temperatures

BBC Weather has predicted a very cold Christmas Day as they released their extended forecast.

But it's not all bad news.

On Saturday, December 25, the weather across the UK is set to be sunny with a gentle breeze.

However, temperatures will only peak to 3C, with temperatures falling to a bitter 1C by 7pm.

In Liverpool, there will be sunny intervals from 9am to 4pm - perfect for those who want a crisp walk after Christmas lunch.

The Met Office' s long-range weather forecast, which covers Tuesday, December 21 to Thursday, December 30, said: "The start of this period is looking to be settled and predominantly dry with large amounts of cloud.

"Isolated mist and fog patches developing in clearer areas.

"In general, cloud amounts will tend to reduce with time, with a corresponding increase in the risk of overnight fog and frost, which may be slow to clear by day in some areas.

"Towards the middle of the period, there is an increasing chance of more unsettled and windier weather affecting the UK, with rain, and perhaps snow, possible for some places.

"Temperatures will generally be near to below normal, perhaps rather cold in the south, feeling chilly where any fog persists, and locally mild in the north and northwest."

Will there be a White Christmas?

Based on previous data recorded from the Met Office’s Weather Observation Stations, Aberdeen is the city with the highest chance of seeing snow this Christmas, with a 11/14 chance of snow.

While London has the lowest chances of a snowy Christmas - with odds of 1/20 that it won’t snow this year.

In sad news for snow-lovers, BetVictor ’s odds suggest no major city can expect to see a white Christmas.

The bookmaker puts Liverpool's odds at 7/1 - while the chances of a snow-free December 25 are currently listed at 1/14.
