The turbulent weather conditions, which could see 30-50mm of rainfall in less than three hours, may also cause difficulty for drivers, with potential road closures caused by spray and flooding.

When the thunderstorms will strike Bristol and Somerset

In Bristol, the rain is expected to set in from 5pm today and will fall for the remainder of the day.

However, it is not until midnight that the thunderstorms will set in, according to BBC Weather. They will linger over the city for a couple of hours in the night and then return the following day, on Thursday.

Then the thunderstorms will return between 1pm and 4pm, with the chances of rain set to hover around 70 percent according to BBC Weather.

In Bath, the thunderstorms are set to arrive later, with the first bout of thundery showers at 1am on Thursday.

The thunder will return later in the day from 3pm to 4pm, with the rain set to fall throughout the day.

Meanwhile in Taunton, residents will avoid thundery showers through the night, with the thunder set to arrive at 3pm and last until 7pm in the evening on Thursday.
