BBC Vigil star Suranne Jones reveals why she won't be making an appearance on Line of Duty

Vigil has gripped audiences for the last month as the new gritty drama from the makers of Line Of Duty.

Viewers were quick to point out the similarities of the two shows as Suranne Jones plays DCI Silva and Martin Compston made a short lived appearance -not as Steve Arnott but as Craig Burke, a Scottish Royal Navy Submariner.

While Vigil and Line Of Duty have both been flooded with plot twists and double agents, Suranne has said she wouldn't appear on Line of Duty if she was ever offered the role, the Daily Record reports.

Now, a warning- a little spoiler ahead.

In the last episode, we saw her character DCI Amy Silva in a tight situation after uncovering the traitor on HMS Vigil.

She tried to fight over a bag of evidence only to be knocked out by the double agent behind the killings.

She is a dedicated DCI on Vigil, battling her mental health conditions while working with a less than helpful Navy crew, but with the final episode coming this Sunday on BBC, Suranne has shared why she wouldn't want to dip her toe into Line of Duty.

Suranne, who shot to fame on ITV Coronation Street before quitting the cobbles for far more serious roles, will not be following Vicky McClure and Keeley Hawes into the offices of AC-12.

Speaking to the Express, she said: "You watch something like Line of Duty (and the police officers) reel off all of the procedural stuff.

"And it’s like, ‘I want to give you a medal’, as it’s so hard to do and she (LoD star Vicky McClure) does it brilliantly, as do all of the guys in Line of Duty."

The star adding: "I wouldn’t rush to play another police officer because of those scenes, but this one (Vigil) is different."

BBC Vigil debuted four weeks ago, with back to back episodes on consecutive nights across the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Ever since, it has set social media alight with its tense storytelling and twists and turns.

It has received praise for its suspenseful episodes as well as featuring an on-screen lesbian relationship.

We'll be tuning in on Sunday to see how it wraps up.

You can watch Vigil on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm Sunday September 26 and catch up on iPlayer.
