BBC viewers express outrage as presenter says N-word during news broadcast

BBC viewers have expressed their outrage after a news reporter was heard saying the N-word on air this morning.

It came during a report on the BBC News channel about a black NHS worker who suffered horrific injuries after being hit by a car in what police believe to be a racially aggravated assault.

Social Affairs correspondent Fiona Lamdin fronted the segment that recalled what witnesses alleged to have heard during the attack.

In the voiceover, Lamlin told viewers: "Just to warn you you're about to hear highly offensive language because as the men ran away they hurled racial abuse... calling him a n*****."

After the interview was aired, many viewers took to Twitter to share their upset at the slur being used without censorship.

"A white reporter just said the n word on BBC news..... am i hearing this correctly???" said one.

"A "distressing language" disclaimer doesn't cut it here, it was unnecessary to include it in the report," commented another.

"BBC think they can say the N Word first thing in the morning and get away with it?" fumed a third.

On Tuesday, it was reported that a black NHS worker in had been hit by a car in what police believe to be a racially aggravated hospital.

The attack happened in Bristol, with a post by someone claiming to be a colleague of the young man, saying the suspects called him a f  ***  ing n****er'' after they ran from the car.

Horrific photos apparently of the unnamed man with shocking facial injuries have been posted by people claiming to be his friends and by his local football team.

Police say they received reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, July 22.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police said witnesses saw two men running from the car after the crash in Southmead, Bristol.

Police are now appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who saw a dark blue Honda Accord being driven in the area.

Mirror Online has contacted the BBC for comment.

In a statement following the attack, the young man said: “I don’t feel safe to walk outside and I can’t play football, record my music, go to the gym or even sleep – I have to try to sleep sitting up.

“I am lucky to be alive. I want to make sure it doesn’t happen to any other person. I want to raise awareness about racism and I want people to stop this hatred. These men and this attack do not represent Bristol. Bristol is made up of so many different communities and I know so many great people.”

He added: “We will bounce back as a family, this will make us stronger. We won’t let the haters win.”
