BBC unveil Six Nations team as Sam Warburton and Martin Johnson lead pundits for final year of TV deal

The BBC has unveiled its Six Nations broadcast line-up including Wales legend Sam Warburton and former England captain and coach Martin Johnson.

This year's tournament is being shown between BBC and ITV, with the 2021 edition set to be the last time the championship is exclusively on free-to-air channels.

It remains to be seen what happens next but it it is expected a pay TV provider will become the main broadcaster going forward. Although some tournament matches are still likely to be shown on terrestrial TV there is no guarantee that will be on the BBC.

Gabby Logan and John Inverdale will present BBC Sport’s TV coverage, while the punditry team consists of Warburton, Johnson, French international Benjamin Kayser, Jamie Heaslip, John Barclay, Jeremy Guscott, Jonathan Davies, Chris Paterson, Thomas Castaignede, Andy Nicol and Brian Moore.

TV commentary will be provided by Eddie Butler, Andrew Cotter and Sara Orchard, while Sonja McLaughlan and Lee McKenzie will also be pitch side at every game.

Having Warburton on board will be a big coup for BBC bosses, with the former Wales and Lions captain proving to be a big hit with viewers during his punditry career so far thanks to his straightforward and insightful analysis.

He had been obligated to quit TV when he took up his Wales breakdown/defence coaching role in the autumn of 2019, before stepping down in October 2020.

The BBC's Six Nations coverage begins when Wales host Ireland at the Principality Stadium on Sunday, February 7. Both matches on Saturday, February 6 - Italy v France and England v Scotland - are being shown on ITV.

The BBC will also broadcast Wales v England, plus Scotland v Italy and France v Wales on the Super Saturday tournament finale.

S4C will have live television coverage of every Wales game on Clwb Rygbi Rhyngwladol.
