BBC Two Doors Down Elaine C Smith 'sad and sorry' as they miss out on comedy award

BBC's Two Doors Down is a hit television with millions of viewers watching on their big screens as well as on BBC iPlayer. And it's clearly popular for a good reason with the show having been nominated for the 'comedy' category.

Taking to Instagram before the Royal Television Society (RTS) awards, the actress posted a photo of herself saying they were "ready for the @rts.scotland awards!! Two Doors Down is nominated tonight. Fingers crossed we win" followed by a love heart emoji.

However despite their soaring success on TV, it wasn't meant to be with the show - and its cast and crew - missing out on an award with Elaine C Smith telling fans she feels 'sad and sorry'.

Updating fans after the show after Scot Squad took home the trophy, Elaine, who plays Christine, commented on her own post adding: "Thank you all for your messages, feeling sad and sorry for the fantastic team in TDD- especially the writers! We’re at 41 million on iplayer. But sadly it seems the industry in Scotland don’t like success - but I’ll take the audience and viewers appreciation every time over gongs

"I can’t thank the audiences enough!! Actually, I’d have given best actress to Ashleigh Jensen for Mayfliea and she wasn’t even nominated!!Ah showbiz eh?."

In response to her post one viewer said: "It's the Best comedy sitcom, EVER..you actually don't need a gong to prove that. The viewing figures tell you its the people's favourite...cant wait until next series. Ur all absolutely amazing."

Another commented: "Sso sorry you didn’t win Elaine - TDD is my favourite - so spot on!"

"Easily my favourite programme ever, I’ve just re-watched every episode again, I’ve list count of how many times!! Just brilliant" said a third fan.

The BBC confirmed Two Doors Down will return for a seventh series with its most recent finale having been branded as a "masterclass" in comedy and writing.
