BBC turn to Wales star after losing two key pundits ahead of Six Nations

Wales and Lions star Jonathan Davies is set for a Six Nations Championship TV job as he recovers from knee surgery that ruled him out of the 2020 tournament.

The 31-year-old centre suffered the injury in last autumn's Rugby World Cup in Japan creating the hat-trick try for wing Josh Adams in the 29-17 win over Fiji.

He trained and played for the final few weeks of the tournament with heavy strapping on his left leg making the last of his 81 Welsh appearances in the bronze medal play-off defeat to New Zealand.

It was announced in November, the Scarlets midfielder would miss at least six months of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

And the Daily Mail report Davies is set to be signed up as a Six Nations pundit by the BBC after corporation regulars Sam Warburton and Martyn Williams took up roles with the national team under coach Wayne Pivac.

He is set to make his debut in Wales' opening game in defence of their 2019 Six Nations Grand Slam when Italy visit the Principality Stadium on February 1.

He will also be in the studio for their other home games against Scotland and France with namesake Jonathan 'Jiffy' Davies expected to be in the commentary box.

The Mail report the BBC will also have another high-profile recruit in the studio for games involving England with former skipper Dylan Hartley signed up for their tough opener in Paris against France.

Hartley is in his first year in retirement having hung up the boots on his 97-cap career, spanning a decade, in November, due to ongoing knee problems.
