BBC to show Julie Reilly murder documentary as cameras follow Glasgow police probing gran's disappearance

BBC Scotland are to screen a behind-the-scenes documentary which follows Glasgow cops as they unravel the complex case of Julie Reilly's murder.

Andrew Wallace was convicted and jailed for at least 28 years after he killed gran Julie, 47, in her Govan flat and chopped up her body in February 2018.

In what Judge Lady Rae labelled an "evil and despicable act", convicted killer Wallace brutally murdered Julie before dismembering her and hiding her body parts across the city.

The three part series, which was shot over a course of 18 months by BAFTA-award winning director Matt Pinder, aims to shines a light on the vital work of Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team (MIT) and their dogmatic pursuit of justice.

Speaking ahead of the first episode airing on Tuesday (June 4), Julie's daughter Tiona Hanlon took to social media to share her experience of being filmed for the documentary, while paying tribute to her mum.

She said: "My family and myself were filmed during the hardest days of our lives also the elite murder squad as they searched for my mum and brought her the best idea of justice our system has to offer.

"We got a preview of this documentary a few weeks back it’s not the easiest thing to watch but for those that make up what they don’t know or simply loved my mum and was part of her life then I’d give this a watch. She deserves all the recognition in the world.

"It’s my mum people should remember not the animal behind her horrible death. Hope we’ve done u proud."

The documentary - Murder Case: The disappearance of Julie Reilly - airs on BBC Scotland this coming Tuesday, at 10pm.
