BBC to make major changes due to coronavirus including extra box sets on iPlayer

The BBC has revealed how it will deal with coronavirus with a course of action that will see some major changes to the channel's output.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned against mass gatherings in his speech to the nation, a number of big events have been pulled including Radio 1's Big Weekend, Glastonbury and the Grand National, as well as a whole host of acts postponing or cancelling tours including The Who, Craig David and Riverdance.

The spread of coronavirus has also affected TV shows with Loose Women filming with no audience and EastEnders suspending filming as well as the BBC halting filming on Casualty, Holby City, Doctors and River City too.

Government advice on coronavirus also means that many people are now working from home and looking to TV to keep them both informed and entertained.

And with that in mind, the BBC has revealed some big changes. The Guardian reports the changes will be:

*Local radio stations will become hubs to coordinate community help for elderly

*Planned cuts to CBBC's Newsround have been paused

*Educational TV shows are being prepared if schools are closed

*The BBC Food website will be repurposed for cooking with essentials

*Extra boxsets going on to iPlayer
