BBC The Responder fans issue same demand as third episode airs

BBC's The Responder has wowed viewers with its gritty portrayal of the frontline of British policing.

The five-part series follows Chris Carson, a morally compromised urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool.

The show has been written by former Merseyside Police officer Tony Schumacher and is inspired by his experiences working for the force.

Chris is played by TV and film star Martin Freeman, who has received acclaim for his Scouse accent - which he is said to have spent a year perfecting.

An original drama, the show will come to its conclusion on Wednesday (February 2).

There are currently no plans for a second series.

But many fans contacted Tony following Monday's third episode to ask him to consider one.

On Monday, Mr Schumacher tweeted: "Right, listen, #TheResponder continues tonight at nine on @BBCOne

"The way I see it is that if I spent two years writing it, you lot can surely spend an hour watching it can't you?"

Sarah White replied: "Best thing we’ve watched in a long time. Don’t wait another two years to write the second series - crack on!!"

Karl Connor said: "I wasn’t patient enough so watched them all on the iPlayer. You’ll have to get a wriggle on and have a second series more quickly than two years fella.

"Absolutely brilliant show and Martin Freeman was unbelievably great in it. Maybe best he’s ever been (on a par with Fargo)."

Kezzabelle22 said: "Omg just binge watched. It was amazing!! I really hope there is going to be another series?

"Well done @tonyshoey it was fantastic! & Martin Freeman & all the cast played fabulous parts"

The Responder continues at 9pm on BBC One on Tuesday and Wednesday (February 1 and 2).

All episodes are also available on BBC iPlayer.
