BBC The Graham Norton Show: Fans believe Taron Egerton could be the next Wolverine

Actor Taron Egerton has fuelled fan rumours that he may be the next Wolverine by posting videos of his body, showing off his gym progress.

Egerton, 32, has been sharing his fitness journey with his Instagram following for the last year or so, posting selfies that showcase his muscles and wowing fans with the results.

The Welsh actor, who is originally from Aberystwyth, does not post much on Instagram, having only nine, but keeps his followers updated by uploading Instagram stories.

This week, the Rocketman star impressed fans with a video of himself dancing to The Bee Gees in a towel, showing off his sculpted body and arms. The video has now expired, but a fan caught it and reposted it on their account.

His fresh gains have got people talking, and speculation has been swirling that Egerton could be hitting the gym in order to prepare for his debut as X-Men character, Wolverine.

Egerton has shut down these long-running rumours in the past, telling Digital Spy in 2019: "I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough. I mean if the people at Marvel think I am then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere."

The Robin Hood actor is friends with Hugh Jackman, legacy Wolverine actor, as they starred alongside each other in Eddie the Eagle.

Matthew Vaughn, who directed Egerton in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle believes that he would be a good fit for the sharp-clawed character, and thinks he could play the role 'in his sleep'.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Vaughn, who directed X-Men: First Class, said: "I think Taron [Egerton] could do it in his sleep. Aaron Taylor-Johnson could do it as well. I mean, I think Aaron or Taron would be my first two choices could do it really well."

Fans of Egerton and the X Men series have taken to social media to express how they feel about the idea of Taron being the next Wolverine.

Willie said: "I'm definitely not mad at Taron Egerton being rumored to be the next wolverine. #xmen"

With the eyes emoji, another fan said: "Taron Egerton as Wolverine... Definitely"

The actor is set to appear on The Graham Norton Show tonight (February 4), alongside Uma Thurman, Minnie Driver, Lola Young, and Courteney Cox.
