BBC technical issues: Moment journalist Chris Mason is forced to abandon news bulletin as 'gremlins' plague Andrew Marr Show

This is the moment BBC journalist Chris Mason abandoned his news bulletin as technical "gremlins" plagued the Andrew Marr Show on Sunday.

BBC One's flagship Sunday political programme had already been 10 minutes late going on air due to glitches.

And the issues continued at the start of the show as Mr Mason tried to read out the news headlines.

Mr Mason started on the lead news story, about Natascha Engel quitting as the government's fracking tsar, but was forced to give up.

After a brief pause he told stand-in presenter Mishal Husain: "I'm afraid, Mishal, I'm not seeing any more of this news bulletin.

"These gremlins, I'm afraid, are continuing and I'll have to hand back to you."

Ms Husain said: "We do have a few technical problems this morning, so apologies for that. We have come on air on BBC One a little bit later than we had hoped to."

In November last year, Mr Mason was hailed for his refreshing Brexit analysis on air, in which he said Mr Blobby might as well report on the issue.

'I haven't got the foggiest idea’, BBC journalist hailed for refreshing Brexit analysis

He said on BBC Breakfast: “So, where are we in this Brexit process? You know what? People like me are paid to have insight and foresight and hindsight about these things, and to be able to project where we’re going to go.

“To be quite honest, looking at things right now, I haven’t got the foggiest idea what is going to happen in the coming weeks.

“Is the Prime Minister going to get a deal with the EU? Dunno. Is she going to get it through the Commons? Don’t know about that either.

“I think you might as well get Mr Blobby back on to offer his analysis, because frankly I suspect his is now as good as mine.”
