BBC Worldwide has taken a minority stake in the production company co-owned by George Clarke, the professional architect and presenter of Channel 4 series Amazing Spaces and the Restoration Man.
BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has taken a 25% stake in Amazing Productions for an undisclosed sum.
Under the terms of the deal, BBC Worldwide will get a “first look” option on acquiring global distribution rights to all programmes developed by the independent producer for “at least” the next five years.
“The partnership will allow us to create, deliver and distribute some of the very best media content adding to the great commissions we already have under our belt,” said Clarke. “The future of the business looks truly amazing.”
The production company is currently working on a four-hour series, House Rules, for Channel 4 and has previously made two programmes for Panorama.
“George and the team at Amazing are the perfect partners for BBC Worldwide as their slate delivers exactly what we’re looking for right now – that is non-scripted aspirational lifestyle content, male-skewing factual entertainment, access driven documentaries, and high-end accessible specialist factual,” said Mark Reynolds, genre director for factual at BBC Worldwide.
Amazing’s key staff include producer and managing director Rebecca Mulraine, factual filmmaker Michael Simkin and Tania Fallon, features and format producer.
