The BBC has suspended its planned programming for Friday following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip, who has been married to the Queen for 73 years, “passed away peacefully” at Windsor Castle on Friday morning.
The BBC said in a statement: “With the sad news that HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died, there is now special coverage across all BBC networks to mark his life of extraordinary public service and planned scheduling has been suspended.”
Among the shows that may be impacted by the announcement is The MasterChef final on BBC One and Have I Got News For You.
Michelle Visage was to present today’s episode of The One Show with Alex jones, but the Rupaul’s Drag Race judge confirmed that the episode will not be airing.
Visage quote tweeted her hosting announcement and said: “This will no longer be happening in light of the death of Prince Philip.”
Following Buckingham Palace’s announcement, This Morning was pulled from ITV for a news special and BBC News interrupted BBC One’s broadcast of Bargain Hunt.
The Duke of Edinburgh spent a month in hospital earlier this year and underwent surgery for a pre-existing heart condition last month.
He was discharged on March 16 and returned to Windsor Castle where he and the Queen had been spending the latest lockdown with a small group of household staff.
Philip was just weeks from his milestone 100th birthday on June 10.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
“Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
Tributes flooded in for the Duke of Edinburgh with Prime Minister Boris Johnson describing the Duke as “a much-loved and highly respected public figure”.
