BBC Strictly star says she won't return to EastEnders despite the soap launching her career

Former Strictly Come Dancing winner Kara Tointon has said that she has no plans to return to BBC One soap opera EastEnders. The 39-year-old played the role of Dawn Swann between 2005 and 2009.

Kara is currently filming ITV's new drama, Archie - a biopic about Hollywood actor Cary Grant. The actress, who recently split with her fiancé, said that she's "enjoying doing other things". In recent years, she has also appeared in ITV's Mr Selfridge, The Sound of Music Live! and The Crystal Maze.

She admitted that she fears for soaps in general following the demise of Neighbours earlier in the year. She said: "You can’t catch up because things are moving so fast. It’s so lovely what they achieve, the serial dramas. To do the amount of work they do, in a short period of time and just keep going is quite a feat. It’s an amazing production line but I think they could take it back to two times a week and have more time to… You wonder how things are going and how long those serial dramas will sustain."

Kara also admitted that she no longer watches the soaps, The Mirror reports, as being a mother-of-two and working, she simply doesn't have time to keep up with the changing storylines. "I’m in a time where I’m not watching as much as I would ordinarily because I’m in bed by 9 o’clock if I’m run off my feet so I watch entertainment when it suits me and when I can," she added.

The actress did say, however, that she makes time for Strictly. In 2010, she won the series with her then boyfriend Artem Chigvintsev. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
