BBC Strictly's Nikita Kuzmin said he ripped his shirt off to 'bring something to the fight'

It was one of those moments that only Strictly Come Dancing can serve up - professional dancer Nikita Kuzum ripping off his shirt during the dance-off with his celebrity partner Tilly Ramsay.

The controversial move - that some fans believe may not have impressed the judges - was addressed on spin-off show It Takes Two on Monday.

Viewers had watched open mouthed as the pro dancer tore his shirt off during their second performance of the samba in an ultimately doomed attempt to stay in the competition.

Speaking with host Rylan, who asked if it was a 'wardrobe malfunction', Nikita joked that "unfortunately, the shirt had a mind of its own and it just went off."

But pointing to his dance partner, Nikita said: "The first step was Tilly's. She was the one who unbuttoned my button"

Tilly could be heard saying as she laughed: "That's not true," as Rylan said: "That's how rumours start."

Tilly then said: "My hand pulled your shirt!"

The pulling off of the shirt came after CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu had performed in the dance off in Sunday night's result show.

Nikita told Rylan that the couple had felt the energy, adding: "We also say Rhys and Nancy and that they were amazing, so I thought I had to bring something to the fight."

The dance off between Rhys and Tilly saw judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Cynthia Erivo all choosing Rhys to progress to the quarter finals on Saturday.
