BBC Strictly's Maisie Smith claps back after being slammed for complaining about walk with heavy Christmas shopping

Maisie Smith has hit back after coming under fire for a moaning TikTok video. The former EastEnders actress took to the video-sharing platform with a video of herself in her temporary digs as she tours the country in Strictly Ballroom the Musical.

The show is currently in Sheffield and Maisie is playing the role of enthusiastic beginner Fran opposite former Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton as hero Scott Hastings in the reimaging of Baz Luhrmann's award-winning global film phenomenon which has been brought back to the stage with the help of Craig Revel Horwood.

But in a break from being on stage Maisie, who competed in Strictly 2020 alongside now-boyfriend Max George, decided to head out into the city centre to do some shopping. But in her TikTok video, the 21-year-old appeared miffed as she shared how a taxi driver had dropped her off at the wrong location on her way back from the town centre to the apartment she is staying in.

"I'm absolutely raging," Maisie ranted in the video, which saw her still donning her outerwear, including a beanie hat, with multiple bags in her hands. "So I'm in Sheffield right now and don't know the area, haven't been here before. I'm just doing a show around the corner.

"I went out today and did a bit of Christmas shopping as you do, it's December. I got my Uber back to my apartment, and the driver said 'is this alright, can I drop you here?' I was like, 'yeah, I'm sure I'm within the realms of my apartment.' I get out the car and I'm thinking 'I don't know where I am, but maybe it's just because I'm not from Sheffield', but no.

"I get my Google Maps up thinking, 'surely it's nearby'. It says it's a nine minute walk. I might as well get another Uber at this rate. As if he thought this would be fine. The worst part is he saw me trundle into the car with these bags. He knew I had a lot going on. It wasn't just a ten minute stroll. He saw me lug it all out the car and f***ed off."

She added: "I've had a mare. I'm in utter shock. I'm home now. I'm sure I'll get over it, soon." But she may not have got the response she was expecting as some slammed her for complaining. However, Maisie wasted no time in commenting back.

As one said: "Oh god that's terrible how will u survive," Maisie cheekily replied: "Struggling tbh [to be honest]." Another commented: "Ahhhh poor you, 1st world problems..... there are actually serious issues people are dealing with like affording food and heating as you're wasting ££."

But Maisie clapped back: "You’re absolutely right Jo. God forbid I talk about a young woman walking on her own in an unknown city at night. I guess no issues ever lie there x." However, those who are familiar with Sheffield saw the funny side with plenty of 'welcome to Sheffield' comments.
