BBC Strictly fans complain and think they must have heard wrong as show is moved because of the World Cup

Strictly Come Dancing fans were still reeling from the latest results show result when Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman sprung a surprise. There were tears as Ellie Taylor became the ninth contestant to leave the BBC dance contest as the comedian faced singer Fleur East in the dreaded dance off ahead of the quarter final.

All four judges opted to save Fleur and Vito, and as Ellie and Johannes prepared for their goodbye dance, host Tess turned to the camera and said: "We will be back at 8pm next Friday." Acknowledging that some fans might be shocked by the move from its traditional Saturday night slot, she added: Yes you heard right, Friday."

The remaining six couples will take to the dancefloor on Friday at 8pm, with the results show at 5.40pm on Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer instead of its usual Sunday evening slot. Unimpressed viewers took to Twitter to vent their annoyance at the change.
