BBC Strictly Come Dancing: Who is Kai Widdrington and what was he doing before?

Kai Widdrington and AJ Odudu have been two of Strictly Come Dancing's biggest hits this series, with their moves wowing audiences week in, week out.

AJ, a TV presenter, has been a surprise hit, whereas Kai, a professional dancer, has been as reliable as you would expect from a pro.

But who is he and what was he doing before Strictly Come Dancing?

Who is Kai Widdrington?

Kai Widdrington is a professional dancer who has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing since September 2021.

He grew up in Eastleigh after being born in Southampton in 1995.

He has a sporting family: his father, Tommy, was a professional footballer - and recently left Bristol Rovers. His younger brother Theo, meanwhile, is also a footballer. He plays for Gosport Borough, on loan from Havant & Waterlooville, and was previously on the books at Rovers and Portsmouth.

Kai was a talented dancer from a young age, becoming the world junior Latin American champion at the age of 14.

In 2012, Kai entered Britain's Got Talent as part of a dance duo, reaching the live final and 11th place overall. He tried again in 2014, when he was part of a ballroom dance group named Kings and Queens. They reached the semi-finals.

From 2017 to 2020 he was one of the professional dancers in Dancing with the Stars, an Irish TV show. He came sixth, second, eighth, and second again in his four years on the show.

Now he's, of course, on Strictly, and doing well. There are even rumours that romance is in the air between Kai and AJ. Something to keep your eye on as the series continues.
