BBC Strictly Come Dancing: Helen Skelton is bookies' favourite for 2022 series

Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton is currently the bookies' favourite to win the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Helen, 39, is the 7-2 favourite with bookmaker Coral to win the BBC ballroom competition this year. The television presenter tops the betting ahead of X Factor star Fleur East, who is second best at 4-1.

However, not everyone has such great odds as Loose Women star Kaye Adams is currently 50-1 odds to take home the sought after Glitterball trophy. Bros singer Matt Goss is also one of the top contenders to take home the prize, as Coral have his odds at 15-2 (from 9-1) for the trophy.

"Helen Skelton tops the early betting to be the winning contestant on Strictly this year. Many punters are expecting big things from the television presenter," said Coral's John Hill. "Fleur East and Matt Goss are two of the other contestants which are proving popular before we have seen the celebs on the dance floor," added Hill.

Strictly bosses have been warned about Helen's naughty side by her former co-star Martin Hughes-Games, after the two worked together on the set of the Summer On The Farm show. The pair hosted a week-long string of live shows on Channel 5 last month and the 66-year-old told The Sun : "Helen’s a bit dodgy to work with. She’s a safe pair of hands but has to be reined in a bit because she has a tendency to be a bit wild.

"We have someone from Channel 5 compliance, on set in South Yorkshire, who tells her that she mustn’t say too many naughty things. Although of course there’s always the chance that she might."

Despite being underestimated by the bookies, Kaye, 59, has opened up about the impact the show has had on her life already. Kaye, who is from Grangemouth, has previously spoken about how she might embarrass her teenage children because she "can't dance".

Despite having two left feet, Kaye is now buzzing to be taking part after updating her 137k followers on Instagram. In her video message, while sitting in a car, she said: "Do you know what, people keep asking me how I feel about doing Strictly, and up until know I have said oh I don't know, I'm nervous, I'm nervous.

"And all of that is true, but actually, I can unequivocally say I am so happy that I have agreed because it has reconnected me with real people. Like lots of journalists, I live on Twitter. And like all the nastiness. The toxicity. And people trying to take you down all the time.

"And this has just transformed my life - because I'm at the shop and out for a walk with a dog or just wherever. I'm in a restaurant whatever and just nice ordinary people go 'good luck, I hope it goes well. Oh aren't you brave!' It's just really nice, decent people. They're out there. This is so nice to be reminded of it."
