BBC Strictly Come Dancing: Finalists given key new rule as Omicron variant spreads

A new rule has reportedly been given to the remaining Strictly Come Dancing competitors with the aim of making the competition fairer.

Just four celebrities and their professional dancing partners remain in the hit BBC show, with the final only one week away.

And with the Omicron variant spreading across the UK, Strictly bosses have made a significant change to the Covid rules.

The rules until now have meant that any celebrities testing positive for coronavirus have been able to take a week off the show to isolate before returning.

For example, McFly star Tom Fletcher and comedian Judy Love have both been forced to skip a week due to catching the virus, while the show's judging panel was also affected, with Craig Revel Harwood and Mosti Mabuse both having to skip shows.

Now, a TV insider has claimed that celebrities will be immediately eliminated from the competition in the case of a positive Covid test, reports Birmingham Live.

This means that performers will have to be extremely careful, and any one of the favourites could be forced to miss out on the final next week.

Speaking to The Sun, a TV insider said: “Everyone was social distancing before. Now they’re being extra careful.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One tonight, with the couples fighting for a place in next week's final.

Dan Walker was eliminated last weekend, and the semi-final is set to start on BBC One tonight (Saturday, December 11) at 7:05pm.
