BBC Strictly Come Dancing big decision on AJ and Kai joining 2022 series after injury

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly invited AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington back for the 2022 series.

BBC Strictly Come Dancing star AJ was forced to pull out of the final through injury, despite being second favourite.

Rose Ayling Ellis and John Whaite competed in a two horse race, with the BBC EastEnders star, who is deaf, winning.

BirminghamLive reports a show source said to the Sun newspaper: “The winner of the show returns to perform again for one dance when the series starts up again and it’s been suggested AJ could be allowed to come back for one last turn on the dance floor.

“Nothing has been decided yet but, if they can make schedules line up, AJ could be back for a final spin.”

The source said: “The idea of allowing AJ to perform one last routine is something they’d love to make happen.”

At the weekend, during the live final, host Tess Daly said: "Sadly AJ and Kai are not dancing tonight. AJ sustained an ankle injury early in the week and, despite treatment and rest, is unable to dance."

Fellow presenter Claudia Winkleman added: "I think we all agree that, although AJ cannot compete tonight, she is, and always will be, an extraordinary Strictly finalist."

Odudu could be seen on crutches as she watched Rose Ayling-Ellis and John Whaite compete for the glitterball in the Strictly Come Dancing final.
