BBC stars, including Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and Rylan, have sent supportive messages to Scott Mills’ husband on the couple’s second wedding anniversary, months after his BBC firing.
In March 2026, Mills’ contract with the corporation was terminated following allegations about his personal conduct, bringing his three-decade career with the BBC to a sudden end.
Now, his famous friends are posting support for Mills’ husband Sam Vaughan after the 37-year-old shared his first post on Instagram since the DJ was fired.
Among Mill’s former colleagues to reply were Ball, who wrote: “Love you” with four heart emojis, as well as Rylan and Mills’s BBC Radio 2 breakfast show replacement, Sara Cox, who both shared several heart emojis.
Broadcaster “Whispering” Bob Harris added: “Sending much love xx.” Other stars to reply included Natalie Cassidy, Pixie Lott and Rob Rinder.
The BBC said it “acted decisively” by sacking Mills after receiving “new information” about a police investigation into the presenter that took place in 2017.
Mills had been investigated by the Metropolitan Police in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000.
He was questioned under caution by officers in 2018. However, the investigation was dropped after the Crown Prosecution Service said that “the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges”.
Rylan recently said he’s found it “really tough” when one of his celebrity friends has been “cancelled”. In an episode of The Assembly, which sees neurodivergent people conduct interviews with well-known British figures, he added: “Especially because some of them are not just my work friends – they’re genuinely, like, close friends.
Rylan continued: “At the end of the day, if someone’s done something wrong, then I understand why they can’t carry on doing what they’re doing.
“But I do feel today that we live in a world where people will wanna go for you and cancel you for the sake of just doing it, because they can.”
While Clark did not mention any particular celebrities who had been “cancelled” on the show, the episode aired just months after the Mills scandal.
In a statement shared after accepting the role as Mills’ replacement, Cox told her fans: “There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed.
“It’s been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me. I’ve had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests.”
She added: “I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever.”
