BBC star Kate Spiers' Glasgow south side coffee shop gets new owner

A popular south side coffee spot has changed hands after its owner put out an appeal for someone to take over the business.

In February, we reported influencer and BBC Scotland star Kate Spiers had announced she and her husband had decided to leave Mount Florida's Market Coffee behind.

Along with her partner Jordan, the Scotland Home of the Year presenter has run the highly-rated cafe for over four years.

Based on Cathcart Road, it's known for its stylish interiors and Instagram-worthy sweet treats.

And from this weekend it will be run by a new face, who now has the keys to the cafe.

Sharing the news on social media this morning, the departing owners said: "It’s the final weekend for us in our little shop but we’re absolutely delighted to announce the new gaffer of Market!

"Congrats Naseem, we know Market is in great hands and we can’t wait to be regulars in your shop."

A few weeks ago, Jordan and Kate took to Instagram to say they were bidding farewell to Market Coffee ahead of "settling somewhere new" as they said they were on the lookout for someone to take over the successful business.

They said: "The time has come for Market to close. After four incredible years of helping keep Mount Florida living on coffee, cake and flowers! We've been a small, family-run business since the start and residents of the area for even longer. Cathcart Road will always feel like home for us, but it's time for us to settle somewhere new.

"We've put so much time and love in to Market over the years and for that reason we would love to see it continue to thrive as a small business. We're putting this out there in the hopes that someone with similar values has dreamt of opening their own place in the south side."

They added: "We have an easygoing landlord...wonderful regulars and a spot on a busy, much-loved south side street.

"So please do send us a message if you think that sounds like something that could work for you.

"And finally, thanks for four endlessly rewarding years of serving the south side and beyond. We've loved everything minute of it and we've made some friends for life.

"Until then, we'll be brewing coffees every weekend, so make sure to pop in before we finally close our doors."

Best of luck to Naseem on her new venture!
