BBC presenter Nina Warhurst has brilliantly hit back at a viewer who dished out some unasked-for remarks about her outfit and voice, and it’s safe to say she didn’t hold back.
The comment came from an X (formerly Twitter) user who, after watching her on News At One, decided to share their opinion that her skirt was “too short for a 44-year-old.” But it didn’t stop there — the same person also took a dig at Nina’s Northern accent, claiming they were pleased to hear a “very positive move towards received pronunciation”, reported Metro.co.uk.
Nina, never one to take that kind of thing lying down, responded with a hefty dose of sarcasm on her Instagram Stories. “When you briefly check back with Twitter/X because surely it can’t be the stream of uninvited feedback from men you don’t remember, and… oh hi there,” she wrote.
Then, in a sharp translation of what the viewer really meant, Nina added: “Translation: if you’re gonna look like an old trout, it’s more acceptable if you don’t sound Mancunian. Noted.”
It’s not the first time Nina has spoken about the toll of being in the public eye. Last year, she took a break from social media after hitting what she described as a breaking point. “Enough is enough,” she said at the time, explaining that while she loved Instagram and the funny, feel-good content it offered, she was spending too much time scrolling and obsessing over likes. “Maybe I love it too much… Enough is enough.”
Earlier this year, Nina made headlines again when she stepped away from BBC Breakfast after seven years. She started reporting for the show in 2018 and became its main business presenter in 2020, taking over from Steph McGovern. In March, she announced her move to News At One, writing: “Hanging up the high-viz & hairnet as I join the BBC’s News at One. Our London team built a gem of a programme & it’s a privilege to be on the Salford team taking it forward.”
Before her career in broadcasting, Nina had a stint as an actor in shows like Casualty and ITV’s Butterfly Collectors. She later moved into journalism, starting with Russia Today in Moscow, then Channel M, and eventually joining the BBC in 2010. Over the years, she’s reported for BBC North West Tonight, East Midlands Today, and Sunday Politics, and even covered the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for BBC Sport.
Despite the odd online critic, Nina’s fans admire her honesty, humour, and sharp comebacks — and she’s certainly not afraid to give as good as she gets.
