BBC star backs return of National Service: ‘It would be a great thing’

A BBC star has backed the return of National Service, calling it a “great idea”.

Harry Clark, who won the second series of The Traitors, said he saw “nothing negative” about bringing back the government scheme on The Storm & Alexis Show on Channel 5 on Wednesday (24 June).

Clark, who served as a British Army engineer, said: “There’s a massive misconception with the army. It doesn’t mean we’re going to take our kids, send them away to war, and they’re going to shoot guns and be shot at and maybe die, that’s not the case at all.”

He said that being in the military teaches many skills, and claimed it could even deter young people from entering the world of crime.
