BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks says Paul Pogba is "irritating beyond belief"

Garth Crooks claims Paul Pogba is "irritating beyond belief" and was "awful" for the majority of Manchester United's clash at West Ham.

Nonetheless, the pundit named Pogba in his Premier League team of the week as he lamented the midfielder's inconsistency.

Pogba, 27, made his first league start since 1 November during the trip to West Ham on Saturday.

But the Red Devils endured a first half to forget and entered the interval 1-0 down thanks to Tomas Soucek's opener.

Pogba had struggled to make any kind of impression on the match but turned things around in the second half, scoring the vital equaliser as United went on to win 3-1.

For former Tottenham and Manchester United forward Crooks, Pogba's display was yet another example of the Frenchman's confusing inconsistency.

Crooks told BBC Sport : "I felt somewhat compelled to put Paul Pogba in my team of the week on the basis that if I had left him out readers would have said that I have a problem with him.

"Well, that's because I do. The France international is irritating beyond belief.

"For an hour his performance was awful and then, out of nothing, he produces the most wonderful finish.

"I would have brought him and [Mason] Greenwood off at half-time - which rather explains why I'm not the manager of Manchester United.

"After a dismal first half, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showed calmness and courage when it seemed all around him were in a mild state of panic. Solskjaer certainly believes in this group of players."

Pogba's goal against West Ham was his first in the Premier League this season, while he has been in and out of the starting XI under manager Solskjaer.

His 2019/20 campaign was plagued by a recurring ankle injury and coronavirus took a heavy toll on his fitness at the start of the current season.

Should Paul Pogba keep his place in the starting XI for the trip to RB Leipzig on Tuesday? Have your say here.
