After a more than two year wait, Shetland returned to screens last night with the premiere of its sixth series - and fans were quick to point out the similarities to another BBC hit, Vigil.
The new episode of the cult crime favourite saw DI Jimmy Perez rush home from his mother's funeral to begin investigating the murder of a renowned, but controversial, lawyer on the island.
A moody atmosphere hangs over the remainder of the episode - from the scene where Perez attends a briefing still dressed in his funeral suit, to the grief that can be felt in his interactions with witnesses and suspects.

The moment that stuck with viewers though, for more reason than one, was the scene at the end of the episode, where possible witness Eamon Gauldie is killed onboard his diving boat.
The scene drew comparisons to fellow BBC One drama Vigil, which centred on a death aboard a nuclear submarine.
One viewer tweeted: "Jeez #Shetland went full #vigil tonight".
"Heart rate going again…. This has got #vigil vibes all over it," a second wrote.
"Oh my that was a #vigil moment there in #Shetland," someone else said.
Others didn't pick up on the similarities, but were impressed with the episode nonetheless.
"Opening episode of #Shetland didn’t disappoint. Beautiful acting by Douglas Henshall as Perez, and Tosh as usual with deadpan humour," commented one fan.
A second posted: "Terrific start to the new series of #Shetland. Brilliant drama well acted by a great cast, with the added bonus of stunning scenery".
"How good it was to hear that music again and see those familiar faces of Jimmy,Tosh,Sandy and not forgetting Billy. Didn't realise how much I had missed #Shetland," said a third.
A fourth tweeted: "Quite impressed with the new series of #Shetland so far."
