BBC Shetland: Glasgow institution features in 'starring role' in new series

A Glasgow institution has taken to Twitter after taking on a "starring role" in the new series of Shetland.

The hit BBC Scotland crime drama returned for its seventh series last week, which sees Jimmy Pérez and Alison "Tosh" McIntosh investigate a graphic novelist who has gone missing.

Eagle-eyed Glasgow viewers who tuned in may have noticed something familiar about the 'Shetland library' featured in the show.

It was actually filmed at the Glasgow Women's Library in the Bridgeton area of the city. Before the second episode premiered, the library took to Twitter to share the news.

They wrote: "To celebrate GWL's starring role (as the interior of @ShetlandLibrary ) in the latest series of the @BBC hit drama 'Shetland' we've created a small display of books relating to the #Shetland Isles! Will you be tuning in tonight?"

The library added: "We particularly loved seeing our pin board filled with (past and present) staff and vols name badges!"

In response, the official Shetland Library account stated: "Lovely selection! We are looking forward to tonight and our Murray is looking pretty shifty."

Some viewers immediately recognised the library, and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One tweeted: "Is that @womenslibrary on #Shetland?"

A second wrote: "It’s @ShetlandLibrary (as was) outside and the wonderful @womenslibrary inside! Totally out of sync with the story now and I don’t even care: #LibrariesAreEssential to FEMINIST CRIME FIGHTING!"
