BBC Sherlock's Amanda Abbington breaks down in tears over ITV fiance's paralysis

Amanda Abbington was in tears as she opened up on her fiance's paralysis.

The 48-year-old actress is best known for her performance as Mary Watson in Sherlock and Miss Mardle in Mr Selfridge. She appeared on today's edition of Lorraine alongside her partner Jonathan Goodwin in his first TV interview since he was paralysed.

The Britain's Got Talent escapologist almost died twice after a stunt for America's Got Talent: Extreme went wrong. The incident occurred last October as Jonathan plunged 30ft to the ground during a suspension stunt at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia.

Jonathan's fall was supposed to be broken by an air mattress, but he was in a critical condition after fell between two cars while clad in a straightjacket, which then burst into flames. Amanda and Jonathan are engaged and the stuntman said she had a "get out of jail free" card after the accident.

He added: "You can walk away. She told me not to be so stupid.” Amanda was visibly emotional at this point in the interview and Jonathan praised his supportive wife to be.

Amanda was previously married to The Office star Martin Freeman, who she shares two children with. The actress said the incident has strengthened her bond with Jonathan.

She said: "We are closer and tighter than ever. We just have this unspoken thing."

Jonathan spoke about how he still maintains a positive approach to life despite his prognosis and was praised by viewers following the show on Twitter.

Lee said: "How inspiring is this guy? Being paralysed must be horrendous, but to show that level of positivity wow just wow"

Jackie added: "What an amazing lovely upbeat man"

John posted: "Thank you for sharing the inspiration in times of struggle. All the best for future and the wedding. A lovely couple."
