BBC sells off Grade II-listed buildings to Bristol University

Two BBC buildings in Bristol have been sold off for an undisclosed sum.

The broadcaster’s Tyndalls Park Road site, which spans 10,376 sq ft, has been bought by Bristol University and will become part of its expanding campus.

The semi-detached Grade II -listed period buildings have four floors, including a basement, and a courtyard.

The properties are likely to be used as office space by the university, according to Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) which made the sale on behalf of the BBC.

The offices were sold off by the BBC as part of an "ongoing strategy" to reassess the properties it is not fully occupying, LSH said.

Roxine Foster, associate director of office advisory at LSH, said: “Considering current market uncertainty, the interest in this office stock was exceptional.

"Offers came from a variety of bidders with Bristol University, who occupy a number of neighbouring buildings, sealing the deal.

"The BBC decided to part ways with this office due to under-utilisation. Instead, the offices which are located in a prime location in the heart of Bristol will go to a great new home.

“This deal demonstrates that quality stock, in prime locations, continues to be in demand despite the wider macro-economic conditions.”

Property company Alder King advised Bristol University on the acquisition.
