BBC's The Control Room set in Glasgow kicks off on Sunday - here's a sneak preview

BBC's The Control Room is poised to hit our television screens on Sunday evening, and it is set to be a must-watch programme.

Glasgow Live were lucky enough to attend the preview screening for the new BBC drama, and catch up with those behind the show. Director Amy Neil, executive producer Elaine Cameron and lead actress Joanna Vanderham were also in attendance, and let us in on a few secrets behind the filming of the programme.

The synopsis for the show reads: "Gabe's world is turned upside down when he receives a desperate life-and-death call from a woman who appears to know him. With Gabe under pressure to work out who she is, he makes a decision that threatens to have devastating consequences…"

Director Amy Neil revealed that actor Iain De Caestecker spent countless hours in a real-life emergency service call room, and even took on a few nightshifts to focus in on his performance as Gabe. Amy said: "Iain, who unfortunately cannot be here tonight, spent a lot of time in an emergency service call centre, studying exactly how the staff behave when it comes to receiving 999 calls.

"He nailed the art of being calm and collected in extreme, high-stress situations, while still adding an element of the nervous and unsteady Gabe into the mix."

Executive producer Elaine Cameron discussed the locations used for the show, and said that fans would be "familiar" with many scenes in the show. Elaine added: "We used Paisley Road West for a specific scene in the show, as well as other streets in Glasgow.

"The city of Paisley was also used in shooting The Control Room, and fans will have fun figuring out where Gabe goes on his travels across the city."

The Control Room has been split into three parts, airing on consecutive nights from Sunday, July 17 onwards. The entire series will also be available to view from Sunday on BBC iPlayer, which was a decision made by the BBC to appeal to the "millenial generation", as stated by Elaine.

So, will Gabe be able to keep the situation he finds himself in under control, or will it spiral from his fingertips, much like his past? Tune into BBC One at 9pm on Sunday, July 17 to find out.
