BBC's Take a Hike comes to Whitley Bay and Hadrian's Wall as Newcastle and Cramlington hikers battle

Walkers from Tyneside, Northumberland and Hartlepool will go head-to-head with each other in the second week of new BBC2 show Take A Hike.

Like a hiking version of Come Dine With Me, Take A Hike sees walkers rate the quality of the route, picnic, views and entertainment of each hike.

Come rain or shine, uphill or down dale, will they give 10/10 or a measly 1?

Stunning North East locations like Whitley Bay and Hadrian's Wall will feature when Take A Hike dedicates a full week to the region.

The walkers taking part include comedian and Facebook icon Stephanie Aird, 52, from Hartlepool; 24-year-old fashion-mad marketing assistant Angus from Newcastle, 45-year-old life coach Teresa from Longhirst, 20-year-old student Jasmine from Cramlington and Paul, a 60-year-old civil servant from Alnwick.

All are hoping that their favourite corner of the county will win them the coveted ‘Golden Walking Stick’.

The group strolls across the coastlines of Alnwick and Whitley Bay, treks through Kielder Forest and Harbottle, and hikes to new heights at Hadrian’s Wall.

The North East competition will kick off with Stephanie, who will lead her fellow competitors on a route along Hadrian's Wall, before Jasmine talks the helm for a walk along the North Sea coast, starting at St Mary’s lighthouse, and heading south to Cullercoats Bay, in a bid to convince the others you can’t beat a seaside stroll.

From there, the competition moves to Harbottle as Angus stages a woodland fashion show and Cordon Bleu picnic, before Theresa takes control on day four for a hike through Kielder Forest.

Before the winner is announced, Paul rounds things with a walk along the stunning Alnwick coastline, starting at the fishing village of Boulmer and ending in Craster.

Take A Hike's North East run will air over five consecutive nights on BBC2 at 6.30pm from Monday, September 20.
