BBC's Sue Barker quits Wimbledon coverage with 2022 to be her final tournament

Sue Barkers has devastated tennis fans by revealing this this year’s Wimbledon will be her last after three decades in charge of the BBC’s coverage.

Sue, who l eft the channel’s long running quiz show Question of Sport in 2020 is synonymous with the annual tennis tournament, with her being at the helm for some truly dramatic moments at SW19 over the years.

She revealed the news in a statement, which read: “What a wonderful time I've had working on some of the biggest sporting events around the world.

"I will miss it terribly but after 30 years I feel the time is right for me. I've worked with the best of the best."

Paying tribute to Sue’s fine work over the years, BBC director general Tim Davie said: “Sue Barker has been the face and voice of Wimbledon for three decades.

"Many of our viewers will not know of a summer in SW19 without her. She is a consummate professional, an outstanding presenter and a wonderful colleague, loved by current and former players, all of us at the BBC and audiences across the UK and beyond."

News of Sue’s departure disappointed fans, many of whom are still reeling from her leaving Question of Sport after decades as its presenter. Taking to Twitter, one upset viewer posted: “There are tough jobs in broadcasting to fill, but whoever gets the #Wimbledon gig from #SueBarker next year has massive shoes to fill. Can’t remember a Championships without her in it in some part - 2022 really will be the end of an era”

A second tweeted: “ Sue Barker is the consummate professional being a calm, enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenter for over 30 years and @Wimbledon on the @BBCSport just won’t be the same without her. What a trailblazer for female sports presenters too
