Vicky's statement was released just before Sophie went to air with the 6 o'clock News on BBC One. At the start of the live broadcast, the presenter said: "Good evening. Well in the last few minutes, the presenter has been named as Huw Edwards, the man who has been accused of paying a teenager for explicit photos and he has said he is resigning."

However, she was then forced to interrupt BBC media editor Katie Razzall, as she reacted to the news about Huw, to make an urgent apology, explaining: "I must correct something as well because this is all breaking the last few minutes. He has not resigned. He has been named by his wife, he has not resigned."
