Nicky Campbell has landed a brand new radio hosting job on BBC Radio 5 Live – just hours after quitting his breakfast show on the radio station.
The 60-year-old will be helming a brand new show where he will chat with listeners for two hours after walking away from the stations iconic early morning service.
Ordinarily, Nicky would be on air from 6am until 10am – but his new slot will leave him able to have something of a lie-in as he won’t be required at the microphone until 9am.
His new show will span two hours, will air every week day, and the Scottish broadcaster sounds most excited about his new role indeed.
The Daily Star quote him stating: "It's why I love 5 Live - hearing from listeners and talking to people about what really does matter to them and their communities.
"It's a constant privilege hearing people's passion, candour, anger and raw honesty.
"Our listeners make me listen."
He added: "They make me think, laugh and cry. I can't wait for this to start."
Just yesterday it was announced that Nicky is stepping down from BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast after 20 years of service.
Discussing his departure from the early morning slot – and abandoning co-hose Rachel Burden – Nicky said it was time to catch up on sleep.
He said: “Leaving Breakfast is really tough after so many unforgettable programmes with Rachel and the team.
“But I’ve been getting up at 4am for 19 years so it’s time I had a bit more sleep!”
A hunt is now on to find a replacement for Nicky on the breakfast show – with Drive host Tony Livesey a hot favourite to fill in at his chair.
The BBC have said a replacement for Nicky on the Breakfast show will not be unveiled until later this year – while his brand new show will also launch later this year.
