BBC's Jon Kay replaces Dan Walker on Breakfast as bookies make prediction on vacant position

Jon Kay replaced Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast, following his departure on Tuesday and just as bookies stick their neck on the line over who will land the vacant job position on a full time basis.

While Dan himself managed to keep it together during his last show, after he was hit with some travel panic on the way up to Manchester; emotions ran high in the studio and online amongst viewers who were gutted he was leaving, just months after another fan favourite, Louise Minchin, quit the show.

Louise returned to BBC Breakfast to be one of the surprise guests for Dan's last shift at the BBC, with him also having hosted Football Focus in the past. As Louise joined Dan and co-host Sally Nugent, she told Dan he'd "touched the hearts of the nation," meaning whoever replaces him has some big shoes to fill.

The BBC have publicly advertised Dan's now vacant Chief Presenter vacancy, with the online job description inviting applications from candidates who can 'be authoritative and experienced and can handle breaking news, whilst also being warm, entertaining and able to offer our viewers great company to create a daily viewing habit."

The first person to get a chance to impress bosses was Jon, himself already being no stranger to viewers. He joined Sally bright and early on Wednesday and bookies already reckon the job is his to lose, with Jon the odds on favourite as odds were update on Tuesday afternoon.
