BBC's Flog It! comes to Nottinghamshire in nail-biting episode

Popular BBC One auction show Flog It! visited Nottinghamshire during its latest episode.

The show aired on Thursday, December 16, and its host, Paul Martin, visited a number of the city and county's famous landmarks.

Nottingham Castle, which recently underwent a £30m transformation, appeared alongside Newstead Abbey and Southwell Minster.

At the beginning of the show Mr Martin and his team of experts, which included antiques expert Michael in Thursday's episode, sat down in Southwell Minster to discuss a table full of gold.

David had brought along with him a number of gold sovereigns, an 18-carat gold watch from the Elgin National Watch Company, as well as a gold key fob.

Expert Michael introduced him, saying: "David, or should I call you (King) Midas!"

In the end David managed to bag £650 for the coins, £450 for the 1920s watch and £1,300 for another gold sovereign and a key fob.

The lot was sold at the Mellors and Kirk auction house in Gregory Street, Nottingham, for a total of £2,400.

During the show the tale of Lord Byron and his many hundreds of lovers was told, with the film crew visiting Newstead Abbey.

The most intriguing item was, however, saved for the very end of the show.

An aboriginal Miru fighting spear, or staff, began to "fly away" during the auction thanks to buyers online.

It had been anticipated the staff would have sold for a couple of hundred pounds, but in the end it went for £950.

Mr Martin added: "What a wonderful way to end today's show here in Nottinghamshire."

You can catch up on the episode on BBC iPlayer.
