BBC's flight from London is madness

The BBC's plans to move Question Time from London to Glasgow are in disarray, reports The Times, because its presenter, David Dimbleby, will not visit the programme's new Glasgow office.

Instead, the corporation will bear the cost of flying staff every Wednesday from Scotland to London to hold the weekly briefing meeting. Except, I suppose, when it snows.

Just as crazy are the plans to shift hundreds of BBC staff to the new "media city" in Manchester/Salford. Many refuse to go. But director-general Mark Thompson believes it's all a terrific wheeze. As I argue in my London Evening Standard column today, I think it spells disaster.
