BBC's England v Italy coverage to start earlier than ITV as channels go head to head for final

The BBC will attempt to steal a march on ITV by starting their coverage of England v Italy 10 minutes earlier than their rivals.

Initially, following England's victory over Denmark on Wednesday, online TV guides had both sides coverage starting at 7pm on Sunday, an hour before kick off at Wembley.

ITV then moved forward to 6.30pm, just like they did with the semi final and then revealed another schedule change, with the news that classic Michael Caine film The Italian Job will air right before the big game.

Well now the BBC have showed their hand and confirmed that their live Euro 2020 final broadcast will get going at 6.20pm , led by host Gary Lineker.

After ITV pulled in a colossal audience of more than 26 million for their coverage of the semi, peaking at 27.6 million, both channels will be hoping the country chooses them on Sunday so they end up with record viewing figures.

Former England striker Lineker posted about the BBC's coverage on Twitter, writing: "Can’t wait for the final on Sunday. The build up will begin live from Wembley at 18.20 on @BBCOne. Look forward to seeing you then. "

But the 6.20pm start time still isn't early enough for some fans, with one telling the former Spurs player turned Match of the Day pundit: "Gary surely an event like this should have a longer build up. You get more pre match coverage for the FA Cup Final."

Echoing that, another replied: "Gary surely an event like this should have a longer build up. You get more pre match coverage for the FA Cup Final. I know the men’s @Wimbledon final clashes but surely you can use the red button??"

ITV's coverage will begin at 6.30pm. prior to the Denmark game, many England fans were still worried about the ITV 'curse' on the side but, after their semi final victory, commentator Sam Matterface urged viewers to stick with them for the final.
