BBC's Boiling Point TV series based on movie starring Stephen Graham begins filming in Manchester

The BBC has announced Boiling Point, a new five-part television series based on the hit movie of the same name, will film in Manchester.

Boiling Point starred This Is England and Boardwalk Empire actor Stephen Graham as Andy Jones, a head chef who has to wrangle together his team on the restaurant’s busiest day of the year.

The 2021 film, which was filmed in one continuous shot, was critically acclaimed and received four BAFTA nominations, including Outstanding British Film and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Graham.

BBC greenlit a series sequel to Boiling Point in October last year, which is set six months after the events of the film. The BBC announced that filming on the TV show began today (January 30) in Manchester.

“It’s incredibly exciting to announce that filming is now underway,” Rebecca Ferguson, Executive Producer and Commissioning Editor for BBC Drama, said.

“The creative team on Boiling Point have brought together the finest cast, featuring established talent and introducing some breathtakingly good new cast members who will no doubt become household names.”

Graham will reprise his role, alongside co-star Vinette Robinson, who has appeared in Sherlock and Black Mirror, as Carly. Hannah Walters, Ray Panthaki, Gary Lamont, Áine Rose Daly, Taz Skylar, Daniel Larkai, Stephen McMillan, Hannah Traylen and Izuka Hoyle will also all return.

Joining them are new cast members Stephen Odubola, Shaun Fagan, Joel MacCormack and Ahmed Malek. BAFTA award-winner Cathy Tyson, who received the BAFTA TV award for Supporting Actress in 2021’s Help, joins the cast as Carly’s mum Vivian, and newcomer Missy Haysom will make their television debut playing Kit.

The TV show will follow Sous Chef Carly as Head Chef at her own restaurant, with many of Andy’s original team alongside her. As the pressure mounts to keep the restaurant packed out, Carly starts to feel the heightened responsibility that comes with running her own place.

The film’s co-writer and director Philip Barantini will direct three episodes of the show, whilst the film’s producers, Hester Ruoff and Bart Ruspoli, will all serve as executive producers on the series alongside Hannah Walters and Stephen Graham.

Boiling Point’s executive producers say: “We are over the moon to get the band back together, along with the creative team of Phil, James and Matt Lewis (DOP) we have our incredible original cast back.

“Not only that, we are excited to introduce new members to the Boiling Point family. We are immensely grateful to the BBC for giving us this moment and we are all raring to get going on the series.”
