As toiling workers well know, it is standard practice in a recession to cut office parties and any kind of hospitality for workers. But not at the BBC apparently, which has just coughed to a £366,000 booze bill in the past five years, reports the Daily Telegraph. A spokeswoman says: "Drinks may be purchased where there is an appropriate business purpose, for example at award ceremonies to reward exceptional effort." Time to introduce more award ceremonies in your office then.
