BBC's Angels of the North up for TV Choice award and you can help get it on the shortlist

The cast and crew of Angels of the North are celebrating the news that the show is in the running for a top industry award.

The reality series, which launched on BBC Three at the end of 2019, was streamed by hundreds of thousands of viewers within days of its launch on the streaming service.

It is turns the spotlight on the working and personal lives of the staff at Longlox salon in Gateshead and viewing figures were so strong that a second series was swiftly ordered.

While filming on that was disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic after Longlox, like all other salons across the country, were forced to close as we went into lockdown, it resumed in the summer, with new episodes made available to watch in the autumn.

As well being a huge digital success, episodes of Angels of the North has also aired on TV, firstly after the 10pm news and then in the well watched 7.30pm slot.

And now its popularity has been recognised by the annual TV Choice awards, with it on the long list for Best Reality Show. You can help it land a place on the Best Reality shortlist HERE

The Tyneside-shot series is up against some heavyweights in its category with the likes of Netflix smash Selling Sunset, ITV juggernaut I'm A Celebrity, hugely popular Channel 4 shows The Circle and First Dates and E4 big hitters Made in Chelsea and Celebs Go Dating also in contention.

The shortlists for each category are set to be revealed in June, with the winners announced online in September.

You have until May 21 to cast your votes.

Angels of the North isn't the only show with a North East link in contention at the 2021 TV Choice Awards.

As well as Ant and Dec being hosts of I'm A Celebrity, Saturday Night Takeaway is also up for Best Entertainment and their ITV series DNA Journey is up for Best Factual.
