BBC's Adele Roberts says she hopes to be 'cancer free' in six weeks

Adele Roberts has revealed she hopes she is finally nearing the end of her cancer journey.

The 42-year-old DJ confirmed last October she had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and was receiving treatment. She was in a celebratory mood as she joined the Loose Women panellists on ITV today.

Yesterday, she celebrated online as she ended her chemotherapy treatment. And today, she claimed that she was awaiting results to find out if she is now 'cancer-free'.

Speaking on Loose Women today, she said: "On Monday, I had my final batch of chemotherapy." She added: "It was December when I started and it's May now. It felt like it was never going to end.

"Every cycle I had, it built and built and got sorer and sorer. But we're there now. We've done it."

Panelist Jane Moore asked: "So what happens next?" Adele replied: "So in six weeks I'll have a scan and then hopefully I'll be cancer free. That's when I'll get the final ok, hopefully. Fingers crossed."

Janet Street Porter asked the radio DJ to talk them through her diagnosis of bowel cancer. Adele said: "I had no idea about bowel cancer before."

She added: "When I went to the toilet I started to notice mucus and then the mucus started to get blood in it. But because it was during the pandemic I didn't really want to call the doctors because I didn't want to be a burden.

"I thought it was something I'd eaten. My girlfriend thought it was because I eat kale a lot.

"But then it started to get so regular that I thought I'd better call up. And then they sent me for a colonoscopy and they found that I had bowel cancer. I was just so shocked because I didn't feel ill."
