BBC roasted by fans after 'mistake' in Lewis Capaldi clip - but joke's on them

There was a lot of excitement in the lead up to the BRITs as fans up and down the country pondered who would pick up each of the top awards.

Promoting the evening's ceremony, BBC News played a montage of nominees including Lewis Capaldi, who was up for a number of awards.

But many fans wrongly thought the organisation had made a very embarrassing mistake with the clip.

The video included a snippet of Lewis' hit song Someone You Loved was played, which features former Doctor Who and The Thick of It actor Peter Capaldi.

Some people thought the team behind the news programme had awkwardly got their Capaldies muddled up - but they hadn't.

The singer has previously claimed that Peter Capaldi, who is also Scottish, is actually his second cousin once removed.

The actor has also been to one of Lewis's shows.

Lewis scooped awards for best new artist and best song for his hit Someone You Loved and in his speech, was as hilarious and honest as always.

Fans who didn't know Peter Capaldi was related to Lewis and featured in his video thought the BBC made a mistake (Lewis Capaldi/Vevo)

He thanked his mum and dad "for making love", and said "thanks to my grandma... er, I guess, for dying."

The song - which he recently revealed was a tribute to his late grandmother, not his ex girlfriend - spent seven weeks at number one in spring 2019.

One person said: "To everybody ripping into the BBC for showing clips of Peter Capaldi in Lewis Capaldi’s music video, it wasn’t a mistake, he was actually in it".

Another said: "The Peter Capaldi tag, is full of people who complaining to the BBC, because they have no idea, that Peter was in Lewis’s video".

And a third said: "People are actually thinking that the BBC messed up and put footage of Peter Capaldi on-screen instead of Lewis Capaldi, who they were talking about Some of you haven't seen the original music video for Someone You Loved and it shows".
