BBC release weekend football programming with five special shows to be broadcast

Even though games have ground to a halt in the UK amid the coronavirus outbreak, the BBC will broadcast a number of special shows with a range of star guests to satisfy football fans this weekend.

Fan favourite Match of the Day returns with the latest edition of the ‘Top 10’ series, while elsewhere there is a Football Focus special.

There will also be reminiscent shows dedicated to retelling the story of England’s journeys at the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Women’s World Cup and a thrilling rewind of England and Croatia’s clash at Euro 2004.

Here is what fans can look forward to tuning in to this weekend…

Match of the Day: Top 10

The usual suspects will be on the box during the regular Saturday night slot (Internet Unknown)

 

Saturday 10:20pm on BBC One and BBC Sounds

Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright once more grace our television screens on a Saturday evening, this time discussing the greatest goal scorers of the Premier League era.

Shearer’s pride is on the line as his colleagues assess whether his record 260 Premier League goals ensure he comes out on top in the list of the top ten strikers.

Football Focus Special

Dan Walker will front an episode of Football Focus (BBC/Pete Dadds)

 

Saturday 12pm on BBC One

Dan Walker and Reece Parkinson present the lunchtime show with star-studded features including David Beckham, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice, Georginio Wijnaldum and Son Heung-min.

Meanwhile, West Ham United forward Michail Antonio discusses his home life and reveals his isolation mix before the show reflects on Leeds United’s 100 years of history and Sean Dyche opens up about his seven years as Burnley boss.

The MOTD World Cup 2018 Story

Saturday 3pm on BBC One

3pm on Saturday gives England fans the chance to relive the 2018 World Cup, during which the Three Lions reached the semi-finals in Russia during one of the most exciting international tournaments to date.

EURO 2004 Rewind, Saturday 3pm on BBC Sport online, the red button and BBC iPlayer

Fans must pick between reminiscing about England’s World Cup run two years ago or their Euros run in 2004, as the Euro 2004 Rewind will also air at 3pm on Saturday.

The whole match between England and Croatia will be broadcast online, on the red button and on iPlayer, so we won’t spoil the result…

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 – The Lionesses’ Summer

Sunday 3pm on BBC One (time subject to change)

Finally, we also have the chance to look back at last year’s incredible Women’s World Cup in France, during which Ellen White’s goals guided the Lionesses reached the semi-finals.
