BBC Radio 1 announce drivetime shake up as Katie Thistleton joins slot after Jordan North's exit

Katie Thistleton is gearing up to team up with Vick Hope and Jamie Laing for BBC Radio 1's drivetime show, as the station undergoes major changes following Jordan North's abrupt exit.

The 34-year-old presenter joined Radio 1 in 2017 after her stint on CBBC and currently hosts three shows on the channel.

Last week it was confirmed that North would replace Roman Kemp on Capital Breakfast after leaving Radio 1 following a decade at the station. In the wake of his departure, BBC announced that Made In Chelsea's Jamie Laing would be taking his place on Radio 1's Going Home alongside Hope.

And now it has been revealed that Thistleton will join the pair on the weekday slot - which takes place between 3.30pm and 6pm as listeners commute home from work.

Speaking about her new role, Thistleton shared: “I am beyond thrilled to be joining Vick and Jamie on Going Home.

“I have loved filling in on the show for the past couple of years, working with Vick is always dreamy and I'm such a big fan of Jamie.

“I can't wait for lots of fun chaos and playing the best tunes for that amazing drivetime audience, this is beyond my wildest dreams! Pinch me!”

The radio presenter also shared behind-the-scenes photos of the trio's promo shoot., which she captioned: “I'm still in shock at this news tbh, co-hosting Radio 1 drive is beyond my wildest dreams, I feel like I'm living in a simulation.

“It's going to be fun chaos, so please come and join us for the ride and I promise we’ll do our best to give everyone a great listen.

“ARGHHGGGGGGGG SO HAPPY I MIGHT BURST.”

Hope, 34, and Thistleton already present Life Hacks, on Sundays between 4pm and 6pm, together.

Aside from the station’s drivetime slot undergoing a change, it was announced that Matt Edmondson and Mollie King will be moving to the weekday afternoon show.

The pair, who have hosted Weekend Breakfast together since 2018, will be taking on the 1pm to 4pm slot on Monday to Thursday from July.

King said of the news: “I can't wait to spend more time with them and my best bud, Matt, during the week.”

While Edmondson added: “I feel really lucky to be taking on this new show with my best friend, and I have no doubt that we will continue to champion amazing music, be ridiculously competitive and laugh uncontrollably.”
